Reserve your tickets right away before the season's last performances of Mozart's "Cosi fan Tutte" (School for Lovers) by a small but marvelous opera company, Intimate Opera Chicago.
These are today, Saturday, May 13 at 7:30PM; tomorrow, Sunday, May 14 at 3PM and Friday, May 19 at 7:30PM.
Because there are so many gifted opera singers around, you
absolutely can't miss by attending. The staging, etc. may not equal the Lyric or COT but the singing is really terrific, and my husband and I saw the understudies! We were particularly impressed with soprano Olga Bojovic as Fiordiligi. She had a wonderful voice and gave an all-round extremely polished performance. Also very fine was tenor Heath Harris as Ferrando. Dialogue was helpfully in English and singing in Italian. Supertitles are provided as well.

The mission of IOC is to provide an opportunity for talented young opera singers to perform grand opera in an intimate community based setting and that is indeed what it does. It also makes opera affordable with tickets ranging from only $18-$25.
The costumes and staging are inventive, facilitating a performance that is very accessible, and using simple sets and everyday clothing. Umbrellas become swords when necessary, adding to the hilarity of the moment. Performers these days usually are trained in acting also so there are no old-fashioned agonizing stage moments to detract from the performance. The piano accompaniment is certainly professional.
Key to the group are AJ Webster, stage director, Yasuko Oura, music director, Amanda Consol, assistant stage director and Nancy Henninger, artistic director.
Intimate Opera is a labor of love and extremely hard work for its' capable staff. It was noted at this performance that two small local opera companies have closed recently due to lack of sufficient attendance and support. We should certainly preserve this fine non-profit!
Performances are held at Grace United Methodist Church of Logan Square at 3325 W. Wrightwood. For tickets, call 773.342.0602 or 342.1509. Parking permits are available also. Check out their website at www.intimateoperachicago.com.
