food and drink
Ok, there's raspberry and lemon and I think even mango and peach. Once some years ago there was pear which was absolutely to die for but not enough gourmands responded in time so it was discontinued. The pear incidently, was vouched for by a friend who writes for Gourmet magazine, so you can definitely trust me.
But, you really must try the chocolate sorbet by Haagen Dazs! It's rich-tasting and very flavorful. One
half cup contains 130 calories compared to 270 in their chocolate or vanilla ice creams. I've tried telling perfect strangers about it when I near the freezer section of the multiple grocery stores I patronize but they uniformly regard me as if I'm The Madwoman of Chaillot so I've stopped that and am favoring you all with this secret info before the close of summer. Of course, as you may have guessed, I use it in winter too.
It's great served with fresh raspberries and I've found that guests who normally spurn dessert readily indulge in this sensational combination.
It's not that easy to find in Chicago. Whole Foods has it and so does Treasure Island and I have another secret source that I can't divulge just in case there's an urgent need in our house.
Some Dominicks stores carry it, for example the one in the mall at 2550 N. Clybourn. You might want to call ahead to be sure at 773.935.577 since large chains don't seem to realize the potential of this product. (I know they've never tasted it!) The folks at Jewel seem to have abandoned this flavor altogether but it doesn't hurt to keep asking for it at the service desk if you're there.
