current calendar, shopping
On Tuesday I was near the farmers' market in the loop at Dearborn and Adams and I thought I'd check it out. I was looking for something special and sure enough.
A farmer from Indiana was practically deluged by noon hour shoppers like the one in this photo since he was
selling bunches of flowers for $1 each. These included cosmos (the daisy-like looking summer bloomer) in light purple and white, fantastic sunflowers, both regular and "teddy bear" (all yellow fluff with no immediately visible center) and assorted mixed bouquets. Everyone was buying flowers!
This just proves my point. You never know when there's something special at these markets. Right now, for example it's blueberry season in Michigan. The tomatoes are just beginning to ripen and I'm on the lookout for those delicious heirlooms. One woman was selling beeswax candles and other bee products. Things change all the time so be sure to wander by your local farmers market regularly especially because the summer harvest is just beginning. We're so lucky; Chicago does a great job with these markets and neighboring farmers now have customers galore.
There's also a Farmers Market on Tuesday's at the Lake St side of Prudential Plaza.
