food and drink, shopping
It's hard to resist the makeshift stand at the back of an old school bus that appears on weekends at the southwest corner of Stony Island and 73rd Street, especially on a hot summer day.
That's where Ray White who indeed hails from Mississippi as proclaimed by his sign (see photo) sells watermelons, both with and without seeds. He comes to Chicago every summer for 3 to 4 months just to do that. The price depends on the weight of the melon he'll be happy to choose for you if you can't tell whether or not a watermelon is ripe.
He also sells freshly roasted peanuts.
Sweet Mississippi truck at the southwest corner of Stony Island and 73rd Street. Weekends only, I think.
